Privacy Policy

Last updated: 27 July 2026

The short version: LeafReader collects nothing. It has no accounts, no servers and no analytics, and it does not need an internet connection. Everything you read, highlight and write stays on your own computer.

1. Information we collect

None. LeafReader does not collect, transmit, sell or share any personal information. We do not operate a server that your copy of the app talks to, so there is no place for your data to be sent even in principle.

Specifically, the app does not collect:

2. Where your data is stored

LeafReader keeps everything locally on your computer, in a folder in your user profile. That folder holds:

These are ordinary files. You can back them up, move them to another machine, or delete them at any time. Nobody else — including us — has access to them.

3. No network activity

LeafReader does not make network requests. It does not check for content online, does not fetch remote resources while rendering your books, and does not phone home. The application runs identically with your network disconnected.

The one exception is entirely under your control: if a book you are reading contains a web link and you deliberately click it, that link opens in your normal web browser. At that point the website you visit is governed by its own privacy policy, not this one. LeafReader itself does not follow, prefetch or report those links.

4. File access

The app only reads files you explicitly choose through a file or folder picker, and only for the purpose of importing them into your library. It does not scan your drives, index unrelated documents, or access files you have not selected.

5. Exporting your data

You can export your highlights and notes as a Markdown file at a location you choose. This is a local file operation; nothing is uploaded. What you subsequently do with that exported file is up to you.

6. Deleting your data

Removing a book from your library deletes its stored copy and cached assets from your computer. Uninstalling LeafReader removes the application; you can additionally delete its data folder to remove your library and notes permanently. Because we never receive your data, there is nothing for you to request that we delete on our side.

7. Children's privacy

LeafReader is suitable for all ages and collects no personal information from anyone, including children.

8. Third parties

LeafReader contains no advertising networks, no analytics SDKs and no third-party trackers. The app is distributed through the Microsoft Store, and Microsoft's own handling of your download and purchase data is covered by the Microsoft Privacy Statement, which is independent of this application.

9. Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new date. Since the app collects nothing, any change is likely to be a clarification rather than a change in practice.
